title: "Why Meridian — one system for the counter, the shop, and the books"
description: "Most heavy-duty operations run a parts system, a shop system and an accounting package, then reconcile the three. Meridian is one system with a real ledger underneath, priced so that using it more is never punished."

# You are running three systems and reconciling them by hand.

A parts system that does not know what the shop did. A shop system that does not know what things cost. An accounting package that finds out about both of them six weeks later. Every heavy-duty operation we have looked at is paying somebody to be the integration between the three.

## The cost is not the licences. It is the seam.

Three systems means three sources of truth, and the differences between them are where margin goes missing. A part gets received in one place and consumed in another. A tech's hours land in a system that cannot price them. A month closes on numbers nobody can trace back to a ticket. The work of keeping the three agreeing is real work, it never ends, and no one has ever been promoted for doing it well.

- **You find out what a job cost long after you could have done anything** — Average costing and a monthly export mean gross profit on a ticket is a guess until the books close. By then the customer is gone and the estimate that lost money has been repeated forty times.
- **The software charges you for the things you want people to do** — Charging by the seat means a new hire is a line item, so logins get shared. Charging per estimate or per truck means the tool argues with the business every time the business grows.
- **Getting your own data out is a support ticket** — The moment leaving is expensive, the vendor stops having to earn the renewal. Most of this market is priced on that fact rather than on the product.

## Three things that are different, and all three are in the product today.

### 01. The ledger is underneath the shop floor, not beside it.

Meridian posts double-entry accounting from the operations that generate it. Receiving a part creates a cost layer. Consuming it on a work order draws from that layer and books the real cost of goods sold. Closing the invoice posts revenue and receivable. Nothing is re-keyed, and nothing waits for a month-end export — because there is no export in the middle.

- FIFO cost layers, so cost of goods sold is the cost of the specific parts consumed
- Returns come back on the layer they left, rather than at today's price
- A real chart of accounts, general ledger, accounts payable, statements and AR aging
- Cores tracked as their own subledger rather than as a note on an order
- A QuickBooks Desktop journal export for the accountant who wants one — read-only on the ledger

### 02. Nothing in the price punishes you for using it.

Every pricing decision here runs one way: if we want you to do more of something, we do not charge for it. Users are unlimited on every edition. Service trucks cost nothing. Estimates, inspections, DVIRs and internal repair orders are never metered, because a shop that inspects less to save money is a worse shop and a worse customer.

- Unlimited users on every edition — no per-seat charge for a tech, a writer, an owner or a portal contact
- Unlimited service trucks at no additional charge
- Estimates, inspections, DVIRs, internal repair orders and voided documents are never metered
- Payment processing is optional, never unlocks a feature, and you choose the rail
- Month-to-month by default; a contract only ever lowers your price

### 03. The meter only turns when you bill a customer.

Beyond the invoices your edition includes, you pay per closed customer invoice — and the rate falls as the volume rises, with a monthly ceiling per location printed on the pricing page rather than negotiated. A slow month costs less. A month where you closed more work than ever cannot surprise you, because the worst case is a number you already read.

- Banded rates that fall as volume rises
- A published monthly cap per location, stated on the pricing page
- A calculator on the pricing page that runs your own numbers before you talk to anyone
- No annual lock-in required to get the published rate

## Your data is yours, and leaving is a supported operation.

This is the commitment the rest of the market is least willing to make, so it is worth being specific: exports are a feature of the core, available on every edition, in open formats, and they stay available for ninety days after you cancel. We would rather you were able to leave and chose not to.

- Customers, units, parts and orders
- General ledger, accounts payable and payroll preparation data
- Technician productivity and advisor sales
- ACH and QuickBooks Desktop journal formats

## What we have not built yet.

Everything above is in the product today. These are not, and we would rather you heard it here than found out in a demo.

- **The public API and MCP server** (not shipped) — Committed to in our Bill of Rights and included in every edition when they land. They are in build, not in your hands. Exports are available today and cover the same data.
- **Voice-driven command** (not shipped) — Speaking to the system to do work — not dictation into a notes field — is the interface we are building toward. The permission and confirmation model underneath it is written; the interface is not.
- **A long customer list** (not shipped) — We are onboarding our first shops now, in small groups, with the founder on the phone. If you want a vendor with a thousand logos, we are not that yet. If you want the person who wrote it to answer when something is wrong, that is exactly what this stage buys you.

## The fastest way to know is to see it on your own numbers.

Tell us what you run today and what shape your operation is. If Meridian is not the right fit we will say so — a shop that churns in four months costs us more than it earns.
