Two or three branches, thousands of part numbers, and the same part available from more than one vendor. If what you run is a manufacturing stockroom, you want a different tool. ## Stock is counted per location, not per company A company-wide on-hand number is the wrong number for everyone who has to act on it. The counter needs to know what is on the shelf here, and what is at the branch across town. Each part carries its own figures at each location, so the branch that has it is a fact and not a phone call. - On-hand, committed, on-order, min and max, held per location - The part picker shows which branches have it while the counter is building the ticket - Switch branches at the top of any screen, so the numbers in front of you are always one branch's numbers ## Bin locations and price levels live on the part The two things a counter argues about most are where a part is and what it costs this customer. Both belong on the part record instead of in somebody's head. - **Unlimited bin locations, per branch** — A part can sit in as many bins as it actually sits in, and the bins are recorded per branch. The same part number lives in a different place at each location, which is normal and not an exception. - **Six price levels on every part** — Cost, list, retail, fleet, wholesale and special. A fleet account and a walk-in price off the same record, so nobody is doing matrix math in their head while a customer waits. ## More than one supplier, each with its own cost Distribution is a sourcing business. A part you can buy from one vendor at one price is not a part anybody in this trade stocks. So each part carries a supplier record per vendor. - The vendor's own part number, so a PO speaks the vendor's language and the receipt matches - That vendor's cost, held per supplier instead of one blended number on the part - Lead time in days, and which supplier is the preferred one - The date that cost was last updated, so a stale price looks stale ## The reorder report comes out sorted by who you buy from Everything below its reorder point, grouped by primary vendor. A buyer does not place one order for one part. They place one order per vendor, and the report is already in that shape. Filter it to a single vendor when you only mean to work one. ## Every transfer has a status Branch-to-branch transfers move through draft, in transit, and received, so stock riding in a van between two buildings is neither missing nor counted twice. The accounting behind it moves cost only. Shifting your own inventory between your own branches does not create a sale, and that is the mistake that makes internal transfers unreadable in a P&L. ## Cores are tracked, not remembered A core charge rides on the part and is tracked through the return. It is not a note on an invoice and an argument six weeks later about whether the customer ever brought the old one back. ## Planned, not shipped: barcode scanning There is no barcode scanning in Meridian today. It is on the build list, it is not released, and you would rather hear it here than find it out in a demo. There is no batch cycle-count sheet yet either. On-hand, committed, on-order, min and max are held per location instead of as one company-wide figure, and the part picker shows which locations have the part while a line is being built. **Can one part have several suppliers at different costs?** Yes. Each part carries a supplier record per vendor, holding that vendor's part number, that vendor's cost, the lead time, whether it is the preferred source, and when the cost was last updated. **How does the reorder report decide what to show?** It lists everything below its reorder point and groups it by primary vendor, so what comes out is one purchase order's worth of parts per vendor. You can filter it to a single vendor. **Do inter-branch transfers affect revenue?** No. Transfers move cost only, so shifting inventory between your own branches does not inflate sales.
